The kickoff event to Rhode Island's Black History Month celebrations is back, and this year we turn 31! Join us on February 1, 2026 from 1-3PM in the RISD Auditorium, 17 Canal Walk, Providence, for this like no other milestone festivity! The poems of Langston Hughes, the poet of the times and our forever poet laureate who continues to teach us today, will be read aloud by members of the community and music by Emmanuel Escobar.

We will be hosted by Rhode Island School of Design President Crystal Williams, who is also an award-winning poet and essayist, as well as a surprise or two.

This year we will host a featured scholar - Dr. Ikea Johnson from Salve Regina University.

Thank you to our donors, partners, sponsors, friends and supporter for your collaboration and attendance over the years.
