Happy Birthday Langton Hughes: Looking Back to Move Forward

The Providence Public Library (PPL) and the Langston Hughes Community Poetry Reading (LHCPR) have worked collaboratively to establish a partnership in which PPL will serve as a source of reliable support, including space, marketing, production assistance, and other resources necessary to reliably ensure an exemplary annual presentation of the legendary Langston Hughes Community Poetry Reading. This partnership will allow the LHCPR to retain leadership and direction for the planning and producing of the reading each year and keep the community at the center of the event. Prior to the COVID 19 pandemic, the library hosted the reading with great success and as we currently look forward to launching our ‘Virtual Happy Birthday Langston Event’ from the newly-renovated Donald J. Farish Auditorium (and to celebrate Black History month as well), we will proudly announce the 27th annual Langston Hughes Community Poetry Reading for April 24, 2022 to be once again hosted by the Providence Public Library!
